Leh: Tsewang Tharchin, an officer of the Indian Audit and Accounts Service (IA&AS) from the 2007 batch, has assumed charge as Accountant General (Audit) of Jammu and Kashmir. He succeeds K.P. Yadaw, who retired on October 31, 2025.
A native of Ladakh, Tharchin holds a Bachelor’s degree in Arts from Kashmir University. Over the years, he has gained wide experience in auditing government departments, autonomous bodies, public sector undertakings, and local bodies across Jammu and Kashmir.
Tharchin earlier served as Deputy Accountant General in Jammu and Kashmir in 2010 and later as Senior Deputy Accountant General in 2016. He has also worked in Punjab, where he handled the compilation and submission of state government accounts as Deputy Accountant General.
Between 2021 and 2024, Tharchin was posted as Financial Advisor at the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) in New Delhi. He subsequently served as Principal Director in the office of the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of India.
On the international front, Tharchin represented India in several key audit assignments. He conducted a Performance Audit of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in Geneva during his deputation to the United Nations. In 2020, he was part of the audit team for the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) in Sudan.
Tharchin has also led audits of the Consulate General of India in Jeddah, the Indian Embassies in Riyadh and Baghdad, and Air India operations in Riyadh, Dhahran, and Dammam.
With his vast national and international experience, Tsewang Tharchin’s appointment is seen as a moment of pride for Ladakh and a significant addition to Jammu and Kashmir’s audit leadership.
