Ladakh’s Chunzin gets National Award for empowerment of PwDs

LEH: In a moment of immense pride for the entire Ladakh union territory, Chunzin Angmo was honoured with the National Award for the Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities 2024.

The prestigious award, presented by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India, was conferred by the President of India, Droupadi Murmu, on December 3, 2024, in New Delhi, on the occasion of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities.

She is an alumnus of the Mahabodhi School and Hostel for Visually Impaired Children, as well as the Mahabodhi Higher Education Program. MIMC President Ven. Bhikkhu Sanghasena while congratulating her said, “With the power of education, even a disabled person is no longer disabled, without education even a robust person is disabled.”

She has always stood out as one of the brightest and most exceptional students among the thousands who have studied at Mahabodhi. Despite her challenges, she has earned numerous awards and accolades, exemplifying resilience, determination, and excellence. With this remarkable achievement, she has once again made every Mahabodhian proud.

Sanghasena, expressed his heartfelt joy over her accomplishment, describing her as a true role model not only for individuals with physical challenges but for all students. Chunzin expressed her heartfelt thanks and gratitude for all his help and support throughout her life.

Sanghasena pioneered the establishment of the School and Hostel for Visually Challenged Individuals, which was inaugurated by the then President of India, Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam. Ms. Chunzin Angmo, a student of the inaugural batch, stands as a shining example of its success and impact.

Sanghasena said that if you have will you have the way. This dating is perfectly exemplified by Chunzin.

He further invited Chunzin to visit Ladakh in January 2025 where she will be formally congratulated by her Alma matter. The entire Mahabodhi Devachan Family extended its heartfelt congratulations to Chunzin Angmo.
