Ladakhi Nationals in Iran: BJP Delegation Meets Union Minister

New Delhi- A BJP Ladakh delegation, led by Shri Tashi Gyaltsan Khachu, BJP State President, and Adv. Tashi Gyalson, Former Chairman/CEC, LAHDC Leh, met the Hon’ble Union Minister for Minority Affairs, Sh. Kiren Rijiju to seek urgent intervention regarding the safety of Ladakhi citizens presently residing in Iran.

The delegation informed the Hon’ble Minister that hundreds of Ladakhi citizens, particularly from Kargil, comprising religious scholars (tullab), students, pilgrims, and other residents, are currently in Iran. With the regional situation showing signs of instability, anxiety has gripped families across Ladakh.

The delegation pressed for immediate action through diplomatic and administrative channels to ensure safety, timely assistance, and contingency planning for evacuation if required. The leadership underscored that safeguarding Indian citizens abroad remains a top priority under the BJP-led Government at the Centre.

The Hon’ble Minister assured the delegation that the Government of India is closely monitoring the situation and that necessary steps would be taken in coordination with concerned authorities if needed.

During the meeting, the delegation also raised issues related to Haj 2026, including matters concerning arrangements and facilitation for pilgrims from the Union Territory of Ladakh. The Hon’ble Minister gave a patient hearing and assured that the concerns raised would be examined in consultation with the relevant authorities.

The delegation comprised of Shri Mohd Ali Majaz, Chairman, Haj Committee UT Ladakh, Sh. Mohd Ali Chandan, State Sec. BJP Ladakh/Former EC Lahdc kargil, Sh. Mirza Hussain,Former Councillor LAHDC Leh and Sh. Nazir Ahmad, Member Haj Committee Ladakh.
