Leh/Kargil, June 6: In a major achievement for the filmmaking community of Ladakh, the short film Dutpa (The Knot) has secured a place in the Grand Finale of the Zee Short Film Contest Mumbai 2026, emerging among the Top 20 finalists from nearly 2,000 entries received from across the country.
The film, which explores the theme of urban migration, marks a significant milestone for Ladakhi cinema as it was created entirely by a local team. From the director, cinematographer, editor, music director, actors, and technicians to every member of the production crew, Dutpa is a completely Ladakhi production representing talent from both Leh and Kargil.
Filmmakers Tashi Dawa of SV Production and Tsering Wangdus Lonpo described the achievement as a proud moment not only for the team but for the entire region. They expressed hope that the recognition would open new opportunities for Ladakhi filmmakers and encourage more young storytellers to showcase their work on national platforms.
The team emphasized their commitment to promoting Ladakh’s culture, traditions, and way of life through meaningful cinema and thanked all actors, crew members, supporters, friends, well-wishers, and family members who contributed to the journey.
“This achievement belongs to all of you,” the filmmakers said, expressing gratitude for the overwhelming support received throughout the project.
The selection of Dutpa among the contest’s final 20 entries is being viewed as a landmark moment for the growing film industry of Ladakh and a testament to the region’s creative potential.
