Jammu: The administration of Ladakh is working expeditiously to provide tap water to every household under Jal Jeevan Mission.
Several areas have achieved 100 percent saturation under Jal Jeevaan Mission and Tumail in district Kargil is one of them.
“All the 143 households with population of 858, have been provided with tap water under JJM mission,” Sarpanch of Village Akhoon Ali said.
He added that he had assured villagers to provide tap water and with help administration led Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh R K Mathur the dream is realised.
An official said that the Union Territory of Ladakh is close to achieving 100 percent target of 100 per cent of Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM).
“Now 25,918 houses were provided tap water out of 42,650 households in Union Territory Ladakh. We have achieved 70 percent target and majority of connection were provided post August 5 after erstwhile state of J&K was bifurcated in two union Territories,” an official told IndusDispatch.
It is pertinent to mention here that Jal Jeevan Mission, is envisioned to provide safe and adequate drinking water through individual household tap connections by 2024 to all households in rural India.
The programme will also implement source sustainability measures as mandatory elements, such as recharge and reuse through grey water management, water conservation, rain water harvesting.
