In a landmark moment for sports in the Union Territory of Ladakh, the Sub-Junior Kho-Kho Team of Ladakh has scripted history by making its maiden appearance in the 35th Sub-Junior National Kho-Kho Championship 2025, currently being held at Kurukshetra, Haryana, from January 31 to February 4.
Making a confident entry on the national stage, Team Ladakh delivered an impressive performance by defeating Meghalaya in their opening match, earning appreciation from sports enthusiasts and officials.
The team is being coached by Safder Ali, while Lobsang Tenzing is accompanying the squad as Manager. Their guidance and training have been credited for preparing the young players for the prestigious championship.
Congratulating the team, General Secretary, Kho-Kho Association Ladakh, Syed Mehraj Uddin Shah, termed the participation and victory as a proud and historic achievement for Ladakh. He lauded the dedication, discipline and fighting spirit displayed by the players.
He also extended special appreciation to the management, Principal and Sports Teacher of JK Northern School, which has contributed the maximum number of players to the Ladakh team. He acknowledged the school’s consistent support and efforts in promoting sports and nurturing young talent.
Syed Mehraj Uddin Shah further expressed gratitude to the host state Haryana for organising the championship efficiently and providing excellent infrastructure and facilities for the participants.
Officials believe that Ladakh’s participation and victory in the championship will significantly boost the development of Kho-Kho and grassroots sports in the region, inspiring more youth to take up the traditional sport and compete at national and international levels.
