Leh: The Ladakh Sports Council has introduced new recruitment rules aimed at strengthening the region’s sports administration and infrastructure. Officially notified as the Ladakh Sports Council (Subordinate) Service Recruitment Rules, 2025, these regulations come into effect immediately to govern the hiring, service conditions, and career progression of employees within the council.
The new rules set the sanctioned strength of the council at 20 posts, covering roles such as Instructors, Junior Assistants, Drivers, Pump Operators, and Multi-Tasking Staff including Groundsmen, Sweepers, and Chowkidars. Recruitment will primarily be conducted through direct recruitment, with provisions for promotion and absorption where necessary.
A key feature of the rules is the requirement that candidates must be residents of the Union Territory of Ladakh, except for those appointed under special provisions of the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganization Act, 2019. Probation periods are clearly defined, lasting two years for direct recruits and six months for those promoted or absorbed into the service.
The qualifications required vary by post, ranging from degrees in physical education and coaching diplomas to computer certification and valid driving licenses. The administration has also mandated training and departmental examinations during probation to ensure staff remain competent, while allowing exemptions for those with equivalent prior qualifications.
To keep pace with changing needs, the administration will reassess the cadre’s strength and composition every five years. These rules underscore a commitment to merit-based appointments and transparent recruitment processes, aiming to enhance professionalism and efficiency within Ladakh’s sports sector.
The notification was signed by Vikram Singh Malik, IAS, Administrative Secretary of Youth Services and Sports, UT Ladakh, signaling a strong government focus on nurturing sports talent and institutional capacity in the region.
