Leh: Secretary of Ladakh, Dr. Pawan Kotwal, underlined the need to create widespread awareness among transport stakeholders regarding the newly introduced Vehicle Location Tracking Device (VLTD) system. He emphasized that proper training for vehicle drivers is essential to ensure the smooth and successful implementation of the tracking mechanism.
Dr. Kotwal made these remarks during the official inauguration of the VLTD fitment project at the Command-and-Control Centre, ARTO Leh, a significant step toward real-time monitoring and safer mobility in the Union Territory. The event was attended by Administrative Secretary, Transport Department, Bhupesh Chaudhary, and other senior officials.
The VLTD system is designed to track commercial and passenger vehicles across Ladakh in real-time, enabling improved transparency, emergency responsiveness, and regulatory oversight. The project is expected to play a critical role in enhancing road safety, particularly in a geographically sensitive region like Ladakh.
Speaking at the event, Dr. Kotwal termed the initiative as a stride toward smart governance, ensuring not just vehicle tracking but public safety, accountability, and operational efficiency. “A technology-backed approach like VLTD will help streamline transport services while also addressing issues of unauthorized vehicle movements,” he said.
Administrative Secretary Bhupesh Chaudhary added that the system would boost emergency response times, enable better road regulation, and support safe transit for both goods and passengers.
The project is a part of broader efforts by the administration to digitize and modernize Ladakh’s infrastructure, aligning with national goals for smart transport solutions.
