
Ladakh pays rich tributes to martyrs during mass homage-paying program
LEH: Rich tributes were paid to the martyrs of modern Ladakh the other day during the Mass Homage-paying Programme at the Martyrs’ Park, Skyatsags, Leh, organized by Ladakh Buddhist Association, Leh with the active support from All Ladakh Gonpa Association, Leh.
The three martyrs, namely Nawang Rinchen of Sankar, Tsewang Dorjay of Sabu and Tsering Stobdan of Durbuk sacrificed their lives on 27th August, 1989 in Leh during a mass agitation by the people of Ladakh, demanding Union Territory status for Ladakh.
Similarly, on 24th January, 1981, Gyen Lobzang Tsondus of Likir Gonpa and Tashi Angchuk of Saspol had sacrificed their lives in Leh during a mass agitation by the people of Ladakh, demanding Scheduled Tribe status to Ladakhis.
Gyen Tsering Angdus, President, All Ladakh Gonpa Association, Leh, Ashraf Ali Barcha, President, Anjuman Immamia, Leh, Ramzan, Vice-President, Anjuman Moinul Islam, Leh, Rigzin Spalbar, former Chairman/CEC, LAHDC, Leh, Tashi Namgyal Yakzee, EC, LAHDC, Leh and Ka Chering Dorjey, Senior Vice-President, Ladakh Buddhist Association, Leh paid rich tributes to the five martyrs in their addresses. Jigmet Raftan, General Secretary, LBA Youth Wing proposed Vote of Thanks.
Ghulam Mehdi Ashoor, EC, LAHDC, Leh, Tsering Namgyal, Leader of the Opposition in LAHDC, Leh, prominent leaders of various political parties and citizens attended the programme.
Earlier, Padma Shri Murup Namgyal gave a detailed description of the two mass agitations, launched by the people of Ladakh for Scheduled Tribe status to Ladakhis and the UT status for Ladakh.
He also conducted the programme. The Ven. Monks of Lingshed Gonpa conducted special worship in the morning before the start of the homage-paying program.
