Kargil, Nov 29:
The Talent Identification and Development Program under the Khelo India State Centre of Excellence (KISCE) for Mission Olympic 2036 was inaugurated today at the Astro Turf Football Stadium, Khurba-Thang, Kargil, marking a major step toward grooming future Olympians from Ladakh.
The programme was launched by Joint Director Youth Services & Sports (YSS) UT Ladakh, Tahir Hussain Zubdavi, in the presence of DYSSO Kargil Abid Ali, Director KISCE Dr. Hari Mohan Sharma, and his team.
In his address, Zubdavi said the initiative would play a crucial role in identifying and nurturing sporting talent from Ladakh and enabling young athletes to contribute to India’s Olympic ambitions. He highlighted the overwhelming response to the two-day camp, with over 150 students participating on the first day, and a similar turnout expected tomorrow. A separate talent identification camp will also be held soon in Leh to ensure wider participation across the UT.
He noted the wide reach of the programme, pointing out that the announcement attracted even athletes from Haryana, who travelled to Kargil to take part in the trials.
The trials are being held in Athletics, Boxing, and Archery, and selected athletes will be provided high-performance training, sports science support, and full boarding and lodging under the Mission Olympic 2036 framework.
