Leh: The administration of Union Territory of Ladakh has announced a massive hike in the daily wages of Labourers and also assured 10 percent extra for workers in tehsils Zanskar, Durbuk and Nyoma.

As per the order issued by Ladakh administration, all unskilled labourers working in the Ladakh union territory will get 450 per day instead of the previous 225. The wages of skilled labourers has been fixed at 575 per day, while the previous wage was hiked to 350. “UT Ladakh, after formation of the Union Territory of Ladakh, the UT Administration constituted a State Level Committee under Section 5(1)(a) of the Minimum Wages Act, 1948 for revision of wages in the UT of Ladakh,” the notification issued by Labour Department reads.
It further reads that the Committee held several meetings to finalise its recommendation and considered all the wage rates applicable in the Government of India and the erstwhile J & K State.
“The committee recommended revised rates after taking into consideration all possible factors and submitted its report to the UT Administration,” it reads.
The administration also announced that the minimum wages in the tehsils of Zanskar, Durbuk and Nyoma (due to difficult living condition and geographical distance) shall be 10% additional to the notified minimum wages in respective categories.
