Leh: As the Union Territory of Ladakh prepares to mark the 79th Independence Day with patriotic fervor, Chief Secretary Dr. Pawan Kotwal held a key review meeting to ensure the celebrations across Leh and Kargil are conducted with discipline, dignity, and full public participation.
The meeting, held at Leh, brought together senior officials from across departments to finalize every detail—from ceremonial protocols and cultural performances to infrastructure and crowd management. Dr. Kotwal set a clear tone: this year’s celebrations must be better than ever, reflecting both the spirit of freedom and the unique identity of Ladakh.
He emphasized the importance of beginning the day with a flawless ceremonial drill by paramilitary forces and other participating groups. The national flag will be unfurled by the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh at designated venues in both districts. The Chief Secretary stressed that every element—from timing and invitation distribution to cleanliness and seating arrangements—must be carefully executed.
Special focus was laid on cultural programmes. Dr. Kotwal directed that they be brief, well-curated, and deeply rooted in Ladakhi heritage. Municipal Committees were tasked with ensuring venue cleanliness and taking necessary steps to manage stray dogs so that the event proceeds smoothly.
To add to the festive spirit, an evening programme will be organized in the local markets to engage both locals and tourists. The School Education Department and local administrations were also directed to involve enthusiastic students in march pasts and cultural presentations, making young people an integral part of the celebration.
The Chief Secretary asked for updates in official speeches to reflect Ladakh’s recent developmental milestones, including women’s reservation, employment opportunities for locals, and key policy achievements. He also stressed the importance of showcasing stories of local heroes and soldiers to inspire the next generation.
Arrangements for refreshments, medical teams, drinking water, and seating for religious leaders and government officials were reviewed. Dr. Kotwal also instructed that important public spaces like Polo Ground and Popular Chowk be decorated to foster a sense of national pride.
The meeting was attended by the Principal Secretary, DGP Ladakh, administrative secretaries, senior police and defence officers, divisional heads, and representatives from the Cultural Academy, Information Department, NIC, and local municipal bodies of Leh and Kargil.
With days to go, Ladakh is set to celebrate its 79th Independence Day in grand fashion—blending tradition, discipline, and patriotism for a truly memorable event.
