LEH: The Ladakh Unit of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has alleged that Tundup Nurbu ‘Cheetah’, LAHDC councillor from Phyang forged his date of birth to become eligible to fight the elections.
Nurbu, affiliated with the Congress, fought the elections to the 6th Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC) Leh in the year 2020, and was elected to the council.
The minimum age for contesting the elections to the LAHDC is 25 years, and Nurbu was required to fill correct information regarding his age on October 1, 2020.
The BJP said that Nurbu was only 23 when the elections were held.
“He forged his documents to show his date of birth as 22 November, 1993. However, his date of birth as per his matriculation certificate and Aadhaar Card is 22 November 1995, which means he was not eligible to fight the elections,” the party leaders said.
“By forging the documents, Nurbu and the congress party have betrayed the people of Ladakh for the sake of winning elections,” they added, while displaying the alleged copies of matriculation certificate and Aadhaar Card of Nurbu.
He is liable to be tried and punished under section 171G, 177, 197, 198, 199, 200, 420, 464, 466, 468 and section 471 of the Indian Penal Code, besides the relevant sections of the People’s Representation Act, the BJP added.
The BJP demanded severe punishment to Nurbu, and also sought that the salary drawn by the councillor be returned with the costs.
“We have filed a police complaint with the Station House Officer, Leh for the registration of an FIR and a copy of the same has also been given to Deputy Commissioner Leh,” they added.
