Leh: In order to promote tourism, a series of tourism festivals in monasteries is going to start in Leh district of Ladakh from October 13 along with the four-day Ladakh Festival.
To make these programs successful, the district administration Leh has started preparations.
People associated with tourism industry along with travel, tour operators of Ladakh have great expectations from these festivals.
Leh Hill Council Chief Executive Councilor Tashi Gyalson reviewed the preparations for the Ladakh festival in a meeting held on Tuesday.
He said that tourists visiting Ladakh in the month of October would get a chance to witness the Ladakh Festival as well as the celebrations in Buddhist monasteries. Folk dance, mask dance attract tourists in these festivals.
He said that festivals are being organized in Diskit gompa located in Leh district from 23 October, Thiksey Math on 11 November, Chemre Math from 21 November.
All preparations have been made to mobilize the crowd of tourists in these celebrations as well.
At the same time, Ladakh Sports Department Secretary Ravindra Kumar said that the role of sports in promoting tourism in Ladakh is important. He said that cultural programs, sports like archery, polo and horse riding along with folk dances will enhance the glory of the four-day Ladakh festival. Full preparations have been made by the department. Sports department encourages tourists to visit Ladakh through adventure, winter sports along with traditional sports. Winter season is starting in Ladakh. In such a situation, sports like ice hockey, snow skiing will be organized in the coming months. He said that all efforts are being made to make Ladakh the main center of winter sports in the country.
