Leh: The Ladakh Apex Body (LAB) on Saturday submitted its detailed 29-page draft of demands to the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).
Speaking to reporters, LAB co-chairman Chering Dorjay Lakruk said the document outlines the core issues connected to Ladakh’s demand for Statehood and related constitutional safeguards.
Lakruk said LAB had earlier promised that the contents of the draft would be shared publicly on the day it was submitted to the government.
“This draft is entirely structured around our demand for Statehood. It is extensive—around 29 pages—so we are sharing the broad highlights,” he told reporters.
He added that the draft also addresses the cases of individuals who were detained or booked after the 24 September protests. LAB has requested the Centre to grant “general amnesty” in all such cases.
Lakruk pointed out that in several parts of the country, even those who had taken up arms were granted amnesty after surrendering. “On the same principle, we have requested the Government of India to withdraw these cases and release all those detained,” he said.
The draft also seeks the release of those from Ladakh who are currently lodged in Jodhpur jail in connection with protest-related cases.
Lakruk said the demand covers all individuals arrested during the agitation, including Sonam Wangchuk, as well as others who were detained in the aftermath of the protests.
The document lays out detailed recommendations on LAB’s long-pending demands, constitutional protections for Ladakh, and the resolution of all cases linked to the ongoing movement.
