
KVK Kargil holds two-day training program on “Natural Farming”
KARGIL: Krishi Vigyan Kendra Kargil conducted two-days training program on “Natural Farming” at one of the far flung areas in Mushkoo Drass of Kargil district.
About 40 numbers of tribal women farmers participated in the said training. The programme commenced with the welcome address by the Scientist of KVK Dr Nazir Hussain. He also briefed the gathering about the main aims and objectives of the programme.
The main aimed of this training was to highlight the pivotal role of natural farming that gives sustainability to agriculture system. The villagers used to practice organic farming before progressively starting to use chemical fertilizer on its crops. They now realized the negative effects of chemical fertilizers, which lower soil fertility, years after the decay.
The villagers have been using farm yard manure in a traditional way up until now, disregarding the need for moisture, which lowers the quality of FYM. In addition, KVK expert in natural farming advised farmers to apply FYM in a methodical way to ensure quality.
Scientist Plant protection Dr Nassren Fatima stresses to farmers the value of biological pest control and asks them to avoid use of chemical pesticides in the future to preserve the ecosystem.
On 2nd day various topics again touched by the experts where, Dr Mohammad Mehdi Head KVK Kargil stressed upon the need to adopt natural farming in order to ensure the conservation of soil health and make agriculture more profitable.
He also assured the farmers to give time to time technical guidance in preparation of natural farming inputs. He explained in detail to the farmers about the main purpose of organizing the training programme to sensitize farmers about the natural farming which is the present need of hour.
He further discussed the modern techniques and technology in agriculture such as use of high yielding varieties and mulching to increase the income per unit area. Later the participants were made aware about the commemoration of Janjatiya Gaurav Divas which is schedule from 15th to 26th November, 2023.
At the end the programme also had a method demonstration on various decoctions like Jeevamrit and Ghanjeevamrit and distribution of pamphlets on natural farming. The chief guest on this occasion was Sarpanch of Mushkoo, he appreciates the efforts of KVK Kargil for conducting such meaningful and need hour training to his farmers.
