
Kisan Ghosti cum Exhibition on Importance of Beneficial Soil Microbes held
Leh: In Ladakh, to make the dream of Ladakh to become the 1st Organic UT of India various programmes has been initiated by the Government as well as Line departments and Research Centres.
In this connection Krishi Vigyan Kendra Kargil in collaboration with ICAR- National Bureau of Agriculturally Important Microorganisms (NBAIM) organised a day-long Kisan Gosthi cum Exhibition to make farmers aware about the importance of beneficial soil microbes in organic farming.
Dr. Mohammad Mehdi Akhone Principal Scientist KVK, Kargil acknowledged Director, ICAR-NBAIM for the support under tribal sub plan to the farmers of Kargil and requested the Director to extend technical help and support to the Kendra in isolation and culture native microbes of Ladakh Specially Frankia species found in non-symbiotic association with Seabuck thorn and Russian olive.
The Director NBAIM, Dr Alok Shrivastav in his address to the farmers stress on the importance of soil microbes in maintaining soil fertility and productivity. He further expressed his willingness to collaborate with KVK Kargil in soil microbes profiling of the district and technologies to isolate and culture of native beneficial microbes.
While talking to Media, he said that seeing the progress of the efforts of KVK Kargil led by Dr Mehdi at Chiktan, Dr Alok has assured to support the KVK Kargil and started the support by sanctioning projects under tribal Sub Plan so that people from these areas can be benefited from their Agriculture Practices.
The programme was followed by exhibition of technologies, farm produce and bio fertilizers to the farmers and demonstrated the technologies for the cultivation of sweet corn and baby corn in the district.
