NYOMA, June 4: In a significant push towards sustainable and climate-resilient agriculture in the remote Changthang region, Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Nyoma, in collaboration with the Agriculture Department, conducted an awareness-cum-demonstration programme under the KHET BACHAO ABHIYAN 2026 at Tsaga village, one of the highest inhabited farming villages in India.
Located at an altitude of nearly 15,000 feet above sea level, Tsaga witnessed enthusiastic participation from 42 farmers and village representatives who attended the programme aimed at promoting eco-friendly and sustainable agricultural practices suited to the harsh climatic conditions of the region.
The programme was attended by Head of KVK Nyoma Dr. Phuntsog Tundup, Subject Matter Specialist Dr. Tashi Dolkar, Agricultural Extension Officer Nyoma Mrs. Nawang Palkit and other technical experts from the Agriculture Department.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Phuntsog Tundup stressed the importance of adopting sustainable farming methods to enhance agricultural productivity while preserving the fragile ecosystem of the high-altitude region. He urged farmers to embrace scientific technologies, natural farming techniques and government-supported initiatives to strengthen resilience against climate change.
The awareness programme focused on sustainable agriculture, soil nutrient management, natural farming, protected cultivation technologies and various government schemes available for farmers. Experts interacted with participants and addressed issues related to crop production, soil health and farm management in extreme climatic conditions.
A major highlight of the programme was a practical field demonstration on the preparation and application of Jeevamrit, a natural bio-enhancer widely used in natural farming. Farmers received hands-on training on its preparation, benefits and usage for improving soil fertility and reducing dependence on chemical inputs.
To encourage environmentally sustainable farming practices, vegetable seedlings and neem oil were distributed among the participating farmers.
Officials said the initiative forms part of the nationwide KHET BACHAO ABHIYAN 2026 campaign, which seeks to promote soil health management, conservation of natural resources and sustainable agricultural practices across the country.
The participating farmers appreciated the efforts of KVK Nyoma and the Agriculture Department for bringing scientific knowledge and extension services directly to the remote border village.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Master Angchuk, who urged farmers to actively adopt sustainable agricultural practices for the long-term prosperity of the region.
The farmers collectively reaffirmed their commitment to building a productive, resilient and environmentally sustainable agricultural sector in Changthang.
