Kargil transporters, hoteliers demand two-way traffic on NH-1D
KARGIL: Forced to hold a joint presser appealing the administration to allow two way traffic on NH-1D, All Transport Association Kargil and All Kargil Tour and Travels Association stated that recent issues with one of the airlines have badly affected the tourism industry and daily hotels in Ladakh.
During the presser the previous day, Mohd Ali, AKTTA President said that the routine one way traffic on the road stretch should be abolished. The Association members requested the LG Ladakh, and other decision makers to revoke the one-way traffic system on the Kargil Srinagar Road.
The trade is being further affected by the one-way traffic system, and they suggested starting two-way traffic for two hours in the morning for traffic from Kargil and for two hours in the evening for traffic from Srinagar.
The traffic system is affecting the main industry of Ladakh UT, and hotels and other businesses are not profitable due to the alternate day business.
Although the business is only for six months, they are not receiving any relief on payment of interest and other dues, which is a sorry state. Moreover, the insolvency of Go AIR Company has affected more than a thousand passengers daily, directly impacting the business in Ladakh.
Mohd Ibrahim of All Kargil Transport Association requested the LG Ladakh and LG J&K to redress the issue of one-way traffic and ensure smooth and hassle free movement of Ladakh bound taxis, passengers, and tourists at Sonamarg.
