KARGIL, JUNE 16: Deputy Commissioner and CEO, LAHDC Kargil, Rakesh Kumar, on Tuesday chaired a review meeting to assess preparations for the observance of International Yoga Day 2026, scheduled to be held at Khree Sultan Cho Sports Stadium, Bemathang, on June 21.
The meeting focused on participant mobilisation, venue management, publicity, logistics and inter-departmental coordination to ensure the successful conduct of the mega event.
Officials informed the meeting that around 900 yoga mats have already been arranged for participants. However, the Deputy Commissioner suggested increasing the participation target to nearly 1,000 people and directed all departments to intensify efforts to ensure wider public involvement.
Rakesh Kumar instructed the Chief Education Officer to facilitate the participation of students from all Higher Secondary Schools in uniform, while Degree Colleges were directed to mobilise students in large numbers. Government employees, NGOs, Panchayat Halqas, members of the Drug De-Addiction Centre and the general public were also encouraged to actively participate in the event.
To ensure smooth coordination, all Sub-Divisional Magistrates and Executive Magistrates were directed to make necessary arrangements and oversee preparations in their respective jurisdictions.
The Deputy Commissioner further directed the Public Health Engineering (PHE) Department to ensure adequate drinking water facilities at the venue, while concerned agencies were asked to maintain cleanliness and sanitation in and around the event site.
In a move aimed at promoting environmental consciousness, Rakesh Kumar suggested organising a plantation drive immediately after the Yoga Day programme, linking health and wellness with environmental sustainability.
The meeting was attended by officers and representatives of various departments and organisations associated with the event, who reviewed their respective responsibilities and assured full cooperation for the successful celebration of International Yoga Day 2026 in Kargil.
