KARGIL, JUNE 16: District Police Kargil on Tuesday organised the final phase of a multi-sport tournament under the Civic Action Programme (CAP) 2026, aiming to promote sports culture among youth and steer them away from drug abuse and other social evils.
The sporting event, held at Biamathang Playfield, featured competitions in football, volleyball, badminton and archery, drawing enthusiastic participation from young athletes across the district.
One of the major highlights of the championship was the volleyball tournament, which witnessed participation from 36 men’s teams and 12 women’s teams, reflecting the growing popularity of sports among the youth of Kargil.
In the women’s volleyball final, Rinchen Kargil defeated Ladakh Volleyball Association to lift the championship trophy. In the men’s category, TRP emerged champions after defeating Skarchen Latoo in an exciting final encounter.
Deputy Commissioner and CEO, LAHDC Kargil, Rakesh Kumar, attended the event as the chief guest. Director Youth Services and Sports, UT Ladakh, Tahir Hussain Zubdawi, DySP Headquarters Anayatullah, DySP DAR Tundup Dorjay, officers of Ladakh Police and officials from the Youth Services and Sports Department were also present.
Addressing the gathering, the Deputy Commissioner congratulated both winners and runners-up for their commendable performances and appreciated District Police Kargil for providing a meaningful platform for young sportspersons through the Civic Action Programme.
Rakesh Kumar said that sports serve as a powerful tool for channelising the energy of youth in a positive direction and play a crucial role in discouraging drug abuse and other harmful activities. He emphasised that such events not only promote fitness and discipline but also strengthen social harmony and community engagement.
The Deputy Commissioner thanked the police department, organisers and participating teams for contributing to the success of the tournament and encouraging a culture of healthy competition among young people.
The event concluded with the distribution of trophies, medals and prizes among the winners and participants, marking the successful culmination of the sports championship.
