Kargil Police holds enlightening awareness program on ‘Gender-Based Violence’


KARGIL: Women Police Station Kargil, in collaboration with Special Cell for Women Kargil and supported by National Commission for Women (Government of India), organized an enlightening awareness program in three distinct villages under the jurisdiction of “Halqa Chuliskambo.”

The primary objective of this initiative was to impart knowledge and raise awareness among women regarding ‘Gender-Based Violence’ and to apprise them of various government schemes designed to support and empower women.

The first program was conducted in Badgam village, with an impressive turnout of approximately 50 to 60 participants.

The second program unfolded in Kaksar, where an engaged audience of around 45 to 50 participants gathered. The final program took place in Latoo village, with the active participation of 20 to 25 women.

During these programs, Station House Officer (SHO) of Women Police Station Kargil addressed the attendees. She provided valuable insights into the newly established Women Police Station located at Tumail Road, Kargil Patrol Pump.

Her presentation shed light on topics such as domestic violence and its various manifestations, child marriage, blackmail, and fraudulent activities. Furthermore, she acquainted the participants with the range of services available at the Special Cell within Women Police Station.

In addition to this, social workers from Special Cell for Women offered a comprehensive understanding of gender-based violence, emphasizing its historical prevalence. They also enlightened the participants about the legal rights accorded to women under the Indian Constitution, imparting knowledge about various laws and government schemes, including property rights for daughters, free legal aid, marriage assistance schemes, and elucidated the concept of safe touch versus unsafe touch, along with insights into the POCSO Act.

In closing, SHO of Women Police Station Kargil earnestly urged the women participants to break their silence and take full advantage of the services made available to them. This program stands as a beacon of knowledge and empowerment, with the goal of creating a safer and more informed community.
