Kargil: Resolving a long-pending issue, the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council, Kargil, has identified a suitable piece of land for cremation for members of Buddhist, Hindu and Sikh communities.
A Muslim majority area of Ladakh, the Kargil region has Buddhist, Hindu and Sikh communities in significant numbers. They were facing problems in absence of a designated place for cremation of their dead.
On Tuesday, the Chief Executive Councillor of Kargil Hill Council Feroz Khan accompanied by officials identified the designated land for cremation.
Khan advised Deputy Commissioner Santosh Sukhadev to initiate the process for allotment. Khan also asked the Deputy Commissioner, who is the CEO of the Council, to prepare estimates, for the construction of walls, gates and platforms for the cremation grounds.
