Kargil: In celebration of Safer Internet Day, the District Administration Kargil, in collaboration with NIC Kargil, on Tuesday organized a Cyber Security Awareness Workshop at Conference Hall, Baroo. The event focused on the theme Safer Internet Day “Together for a Better Internet.”

Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC), Kargil, Ghulam Mohi-Ud-Din Wani attended the workshop as the chief guest, along with District Program Officer, ICDS Projects, Kargil, Nargis Banoo, CMO Kargil, Dr. Liyaqat Ali Khan, DIO, NIC Kargil, Iftikhar Hussain, sectoral officers, and other district officers.

While speaking on the occasion, ADC Kargil, Ghulam Mohi-Ud-Din Wani emphasized the need to stay vigilant against internet crimes in today’s digital age. The ADC urged officers to remain vigilant against cybercrimes and actively promote awareness in their offices. He encouraged participants to report cybercrimes to the cyber police rather than creating panic.

In the first session of the workshop, resource persons, including District Informatics Associate, NIC, Kargil, Ladakh, Mohan Katariya, and Sub-Inspector, IC Cyber Crime, Mohd Illayas, delivered presentations on the subject.

Mohan Katariya detailed the internet and its uses in day-to-day life. He explained safe internet usage, common cyber threats, cyber hygiene practices and mechanisms for reporting cybercrimes.

He discussed awareness resources, privacy protection, and methods for identifying fake websites to promote safe internet usage. Additionally, he highlighted recent cyber incidents and provided strategies for safeguarding against online threats.

During the workshop, Sub-Inspector IC Cyber Crime, Mohd Illayas also gave PPT on cybercrimes. He explained cybercrimes including bank impersonation calls, OLX frauds, and custom duty scams, raising awareness among participants. He also informed participants about the process of reporting cybercrimes and seeking help from authorities.

In the workshop’s second session, DIO NIC Kargil, Iftikhar Hussain, delivered an in-depth presentation on e-office. He explained its concept, significance in streamlining official work, and benefits in enhancing efficiency and transparency.

He also guided participants on how to use the e-office system effectively for digital documentation and workflow management. During the workshop, an interactive session was also held where participants clarified their doubts about e-office implementation.
