Leh: The Ladakh Territorial Congress Committee has formally demanded a judicial inquiry into the tragic incident that took place in Leh on September 24, which resulted in the deaths of four young men and injuries to over 54 people during police firing.
In a letter addressed to Lieutenant Governor Kavinder Gupta, Congress leader Nawang Rigzin Jora expressed deep sorrow over the incident, while condemning both the violence by protesters and the allegedly harsh response by authorities.
Jora stated that the situation could have been managed with greater restraint, patience, and maturity, suggesting that the escalation might have been avoided with measured action.
The letter also challenged ongoing blame directed at certain Congress councillors, including accusations that one councillor incited the protests and another allegedly led the mob based on a purported photograph.
Jora clarified that the emotional rhetoric by one councillor at a press conference on September 23 was understandable, as two individuals on a 14-day hunger strike had been evacuated in critical condition, and they belonged to his constituency.
Urging for transparency and justice, the Congress committee emphasized that a judicial inquiry is essential to ensure fair play and accountability for all parties involved in the September 24 unrest.
