Zanskar, Feb 10: Acting on the directions of the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Zanskar, authorities on Tuesday conducted a joint inspection drive in the Main Market area to ensure strict compliance with food safety regulations and protect consumer interests.
The drive was led by the Naib Tehsildar Zanskar and carried out jointly by the Food Safety Officer, officials from the Medical Department, Tehsil Supply Officer (TSO) of the FCS&CA Department, along with a police team.
During the inspection, more than 25 establishments, including retail shops, vegetable vendors, restaurants, tea stalls and dhabas, were thoroughly checked. The inspection team detected several expired food items and found unhygienic and unsanitary conditions in a number of establishments.
Officials immediately destroyed all expired and unsafe food products on the spot to eliminate potential health risks. Surveillance samples of food items were also collected and sent for laboratory analysis to verify quality and safety standards.
Authorities issued 12 challans to shopkeepers for violating prescribed food safety and hygiene norms. Traders were strictly instructed to maintain cleanliness, follow food safety guidelines and ensure that only fresh and safe products are sold to consumers.
The administration warned that such inspection drives will continue on a regular basis and strict action will be taken against any individual or establishment found compromising public health and consumer safety.
