Kargil, Ladakh: The vibrant spirit of water conservation and community participation was on full display as Jal Mahotsav 2026 was successfully celebrated today in Haniskot village of Kargil district.
The event witnessed active participation from local residents, officials, and stakeholders, focusing on the importance of safe and sustainable water management. A comprehensive cleanliness drive was carried out at the water source, highlighting the need to preserve and protect natural resources.
As part of the programme, Field Test Kit (FTK) testing was conducted on-site to assess water quality, along with live demonstrations to educate villagers on maintaining potable water standards at the household level.
One of the key highlights of the celebration was the Jal Yatra, which traced the journey of water from its source to the tap connection, symbolizing transparency, accountability, and community ownership in water supply systems.
The initiative aimed to raise awareness about the significance of clean drinking water, promote community-led water management practices, and strengthen the vision of Har Ghar Jal under the Jal Jeevan Mission.
Officials appreciated the enthusiastic involvement of the local community and reiterated their commitment to ensuring safe and adequate drinking water for all.
The event concluded on a positive note, reinforcing the collective responsibility towards water conservation and sustainable development in the region.
