LEH: The annual observance of the International Day of People with Disability, organised by the Chief Education Office, Leh was held Sunday with the aim of transformative solutions for inclusive development and the role of innovation in fuelling an accessible and equitable world.
Executive Councillor RDD, Tashi Namgyal Yakzee was the chief guest of the occasion. In his address, EC Yakzee admired the enthusiastic participation of differently abled students. He added that this day has given an opportunity to show case their talents and stressed to harness their potential.
Further, he added that in honour of the inherent dignity and worth of disabled people around the world and in recognition of the immeasurable contributions people with disabilities (PwDs) have made, we must continue to build a more inclusive and equitable world. He urged to celebrate the day with pride and encouraged everyone to lift up their dignity.
He also appreciated the work of NGOs and spoke on the importance of the role of parents in shaping the future of differently abled students.
He informed that Hill Council Leh is making all possible efforts to make Ladakh accessible for all by adding inclusive facilities in terms of infrastructure and special needs of persons with disabilities through subsidy components.
On the occasion, EC Yakzee also inaugurated a Special Bus for differently abled students. The participants and supporters were felicitated with gifts and certificates.
Chief Education Officer Leh; DEPO Leh; ZEOs; Presidents from REWA, PAGIR, MUNSEL and students and teachers of Inclusive Education Chuchot, TCV Leh, Nubra and volunteer doctors were present.
