Inter-High School indoor tournament of Leh district concludes

Leh: The Inter-High School indoor tournament of Leh district, organised by the Department of Youth Services and Sports, Leh, concluded successfully at the Multipurpose Indoor Hall, NDS Sports Complex, Leh in the presence of chief guest Secretary, Youth Services and Sports, Ladakh, Ravinder Kumar and guest of honour Joint Director, YSS, Ladakh, Moses Kunzang.

Addressing the gathering, Secretary Sports lauded the efforts of the organisers for successfully conducting the Inter-High School indoor tournament after two years gap due to the Covid pandemic. He added that developing sports infrastructure and providing sports equipment to all the schools of Ladakh to boost sports is a significant aspect of UT Administration. He stressed that exposure to sports would promote and inculcate qualities of teamwork, dedication, discipline, and sportsmanship among the students.

Secretary Sports added that initiatives for organising refresher courses and training for the Physical Education/Sports teachers and masters are under process. He also stressed the need for dedicated and regular practice/training of the students to hone their sporting skills to compete at higher levels in the future.

In the end, Secretary Sports distributed the prizes to the winner and the runner-ups in the tournament.
20 High Schools from various parts of Leh district participated in the tournament which commenced on December 12. It included competition in games like Badminton, Table Tennis, and Chess.

In the Badminton Doubles (Boys) category, Govt High School Tia won, and Govt High School Dhomkhar Dho was runner-up. In the Girls’ category Govt High School Nimoo won, and Govt High Schho Shey was runner-up.

In the Badminton Singles (Boys), Islamia Public High School, Leh won while Govt High School Phyang was runner-up. Similarly, in Girls’ Singles, Govt High School Shey won, and High School Gya was runner-up.

In the Table Tennis Doubles (Boys) competition, Govt High School Housing Colony won, and Islamia Public High School, Leh was runner-up. In the Table Tennis Doubles (Girls), Govt High School Nimoo won, and Govt High School Gya was runner-up.

In Table Tennis Singles (Boys), GHS Housing Colony won while Islamia Public High School, Leh was runner-up. Similarly, in Girls’ Singles GHS Dhomkhar Gongma won, and GHS Shey was runner-up.

In the Chess competition (Boys), GHS Thiksey won, and GHS Chumathang was runner-up. Meanwhile, in the Chess (Girls) category. GHS Gya won, and GHS Housing Colony was the runner-up.
