In Ladakh, to commemorate Defence Forces Veterans Day, the Kargil Sentinels of the Indian Army organised an Ex-Servicemen Rally at the Sainik Institute, Kargil.
A large number of ex-servicemen, Veer Naris, war widows and their dependents from different parts of Kargil participated in the rally. The event provided a single-window platform for redressal of grievances related to pension, medical facilities, documentation, resettlement and other welfare schemes.
Stalls were set up by the Army and civil departments, including Record Offices, Zila Sainik Welfare Office, ECHS, banks, Revenue Department and Power Development Department, to provide on-the-spot assistance. Several issues related to pension anomalies, service records and ECHS cards were resolved during the rally.
The General Officer Commanding, 8 Mountain Division, Kargil, Major General K. Mahesh, was the Chief Guest on the occasion. Senior Army officers also interacted with the veterans and assured them of continued support and welfare.
Speaking on the occasion, Major General K. Mahesh said that Veterans Day provides an important opportunity for the Indian Army to understand and address the concerns of veterans, war widows and next of kin on priority. He also highlighted the strong bond between the Army and the people of Kargil.
An Air Force veteran from the Line of Control village Kaksar appreciated the initiative and expressed satisfaction over the prompt services provided during the rally.
