New Delhi, Feb 18: Highlighting India’s growing stature as a global technology leader, Ladakh Lieutenant Governor Kavinder Gupta on Tuesday said the India AI Summit reflects the nation’s leadership in promoting ethical and human-centric artificial intelligence.
Speaking during his visit to the summit at Bharat Mandapam, the Lt Governor stated that the participation of over 20 countries underscores international confidence in India’s technological capabilities and its commitment to responsible AI development. Commissioner Secretary IT, Ladakh, Shashanka Ala, accompanied him during the visit.
Interacting with representatives of leading global and Indian technology firms including Google, Meta, Amazon, Airtel and CoRover, the Lt Governor appreciated AI-driven solutions focused on governance efficiency, healthcare, education, digital inclusion and public service delivery.
He credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of Digital India and AI for All for laying a strong foundation to leverage emerging technologies for citizen empowerment and last-mile service delivery.
Emphasising Ladakh’s strategic and geographical advantages, Gupta said the Union Territory is working towards becoming the country’s first AI-enabled city. He noted that AI can significantly support smart administration, predictive governance, disaster management, climate resilience, tourism management and youth empowerment in frontier regions.
The Lt Governor also pitched Ladakh as a promising destination for sustainable data centres, citing its naturally cold climate, low humidity and clean energy potential, which reduce cooling costs and improve energy efficiency. He said the region holds long-term advantages for green data infrastructure aligned with India’s data sovereignty and digital security goals.
Expressing optimism, Gupta said the outcomes of the India AI Summit would deepen international cooperation and accelerate India’s journey towards becoming a global AI powerhouse while ensuring technology remains inclusive, transparent and people-centric.
