Leh, August 14: Ladakh Lieutenant Governor V.K. Saxena, in his Independence Day message, extended his greetings to the people of Ladakh and the country, paying tribute to the freedom fighters, armed forces and security personnel who made sacrifices in the service of the nation.

Saxena said Independence Day was not only an occasion to celebrate freedom but also an opportunity to reaffirm India’s commitment to unity, strength and development.

He said India’s resolve was to become a developed nation and the world’s second-largest economy by 2047, stressing the need to ensure that welfare schemes reach the most vulnerable sections while empowering farmers, women and youth through skill development and employment.

Highlighting Ladakh’s journey since becoming a Union Territory in 2019, Saxena said the region had witnessed significant transformation extending beyond roads and infrastructure.

He said the focus was on improving governance, fulfilling the aspirations of the people and raising the standard of living, particularly in remote and border areas.

The LG highlighted progress in administration, connectivity, healthcare, education, tourism, communication, water security, environmental protection and employment as key drivers of Ladakh’s development.

Saxena stressed that Ladakh’s identity was closely linked with its fragile ecology and rich cultural heritage, making it essential to ensure that development and conservation move together.

Referring to challenges including climate change, floods and environmental degradation, he called for collective efforts to protect Ladakh’s unique environment.

He also urged citizens to follow the Fundamental Duties enshrined in the Constitution by respecting national symbols, protecting the environment, preserving heritage, promoting harmony and maintaining public order.

Saxena said nation-building was not the responsibility of the government alone and that every citizen had an important role to play.

He called upon the people of Ladakh to move forward with confidence, discipline and responsibility to build a region that is prosperous and sustainable, modern yet rooted in its cultural heritage, while contributing to India’s progress as a strong nation.
