LEH: As part of his regular outreach programme, Ladakh Lieutenant Governor R.K. Mathur today visited the historic Wanla village where he was accorded traditional welcome by local representatives and members of the general public.
Mathur, accompanied by CEC Leh Tashi Gyalson and Deputy Commissioner Shrikant Balasaheb Suse, was accorded a warm welcome by the people of Wanla village. Rigzin Angchuk from Wanla briefed LG Mathur about the history of the village. Padma Shri Morup Namgyal thanked LG Mathur for visiting the village and also expressed gratitude on behalf of the people of Wanla for carrying out various developmental works in the village.
Chairperson, Block Development Council (BDC), Singge-Lalok, Stanzin Yangdol, raised several issues related to the development of the block, viz. restoration of the services of the outsourced junior pharmacists, sanctioning of a separate Agriculture Extension Centre for Singge Lalok, sanctioning of funds for completion of various infrastructure work for the smooth conduct of the Yarchos Chenmo ceremony in Singge Lalok, a separate development package for Singge Lalok, etc.
Chairman, LAHDC Leh, Adv Tashi Gyalson, on behalf of the people of his constituency, raised several development-related issues, including improving telecommunication and mobile connectivity; the need to set up Medical Sub-Centres in Hinju and Ursi; upgradation of Sumdho Highway to Nyeraks via Wanla, Hanupata and Singge La; reorganisation of revenue village of Wanla A and Wanla B; release of pending funds for the development of Wanla as a model village under Tribal Sub-Plan (TSP); installing protection bund at Hinju-Fanji La and Shila nullah, promotion of tourism activities in Wanla and Singge La, setting up adequate infrastructure at Shila and Wanla hot spring, etc. He also informed about the ongoing work on the statue of Wanla Lonpo.
President, Lonchen Bagder Skyab Chuchikjal Tsogspa, Wanla, also raised a few issues, viz. allotment of funds for the construction of Gomphuk Retreat Centre at Wanla; funds for infrastructure development around Wanla monastery, funds for the construction of sarai for monks at Nimoling in Leh, etc.
LG Mathur assured to look into the issues of the people of Wanla and Singge-Lalok area with the help of Hill Council, Leh. He informed about the Administration’s initiatives for the development of Ladakh, including generation of employment, preservation of rich culture and heritage of Ladakh, etc. LG Mathur stressed on the need for constructive thoughts and the right intention to take Ladakh on the path of development. He said the Administration and both Hill Councils are focused on the development of Ladakh and also on fulfilling the aspirations of the people of Ladakh.
LG Mathur informed about various initiatives taken by both Administration and Council to provide the best possible facilities for the people despite the prevalence of the Covid-19 pandemic. He also informed about the efforts to promote entrepreneurs and self-help groups (SHGs). There was also a cultural performance from the villagers and students of Govt School, Wanla.
LG Mathur also visited the Wanla monastery and also the woodcarving unit set up by Rigzin Angchuk.
Padma Shri Morup Namgyal; Padma Shri Tsering Namgyal; Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM), Khaltsi; Tehsilar Khaltsi; Chairperson BDC Khaltse; Sarpanch, Naib Parpanch, Goba, govt officials, villagers and students from Wanla village were present during the event.
