Leh: The Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC) Leh is set to launch the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination drive for girl students of Classes 10 to 12, with special priority for those from underprivileged backgrounds, particularly those enrolled in government schools.
This was decided during a review meeting chaired by CEC Adv. Tashi Gyalson, held to assess preparations for the vaccination rollout and the upcoming district-wide eye screening camp.
The meeting held in the presence of DC/CEO LAHDC Leh, Romil Singh Donk, the meeting was attended by key health and education officials including Director Health Dr. Tashi Thinles, CMO Leh Dr. Dolma Chuskit, CEO Dr. Deldan Angmo, and members of the Phande Lekjin Welfare Society.
Discussions focused on launching the HPV vaccine for girl students of Classes 10 to 12, with priority to be given to students from underprivileged backgrounds, especially in government schools.
The CEC directed the Chief Education Officer to prepare student lists and initiate the parental consent process.
The Chief Medical Officer, in coordination with other departments, was tasked with vaccine procurement, storage, and administration logistics. Officials also discussed vaccination centre locations and estimated budget requirements.
Regarding the eye screening camp—slated for September to early October in Leh, Changthang, and Zanskar—the CEC emphasized mobilising medical teams, equipment, and logistics for effective execution.
The camp will include screenings and surgeries for cataract and pterygium cases.
A follow-up meeting will be conducted to finalise implementation strategies. The coordinated efforts aim to strengthen preventive health measures across the district.
