Kargil, November 2:
Member of Parliament (MP) Ladakh, Mohmad Haneefa Jan, conducted an extensive tour of Barsoo Constituency, covering several villages and becoming the first MP from Ladakh to visit the last village, Itchoo, which remains without road connectivity.
The MP was accompanied by the Councillor Barsoo, SDM Sankoo, and officials from various departments. During his visit, he interacted with local residents and reviewed their developmental concerns.
At Bartoo, villagers demanded ST line shifting and school upgradation, while at Itchoo, residents sought helicopter service during winter, an ambulance, and grants for winter coaching. In Shargandi, the focus was on improving basic facilities, and at Pangbar, demands included a road link to Sapi, ambulance service, library computers, and a new primary school building.
At Tiket, villagers requested heating arrangements, beautification funds for the Imam Bargah, school upgradation, and mobile tower installation. Khandi residents sought protection of a sacred spring and a new playfield, and the MP inspected the KREDA Small Hydro Power Project there.
In Gamating and Hamburtik, people demanded road widening, a school bus, and medical and communication facilities. At Pattu, requests included bund construction, irrigation canals, library equipment, and a connecting bridge.
Addressing gatherings at Hamburtik and Purkichey, MP Haneefa Jan assured that genuine issues will be taken up on priority. He directed departments to act immediately on minor matters and stated that major concerns will be raised with the UT Administration and Central Government. A follow-up meeting with relevant departments will also be held after the tour.
Earlier, at Chibar, the MP inaugurated a village museum collection created through local efforts. Appreciating the initiative, he instructed the Tourism and Culture Department to explore Chibar’s tourism potential.
