Leh:  The Leh administration reviewed preparations on Friday for the upcoming visit of the 14th Dalai Lama to Ladakh, scheduled for June 28. Officials stressed the need for coordinated efforts to ensure the event proceeds smoothly.

Officials said a high-level preparatory meeting was held in Leh between top officials and representatives of various departments and stakeholders, including the Ladakh Buddhist Association (LBA), Ladakh Gonpa Association (LGA), Health Department, Police, Tibetan Refugee representatives and other agencies.

The meeting also held discussions to celebrate His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s 91st birthday on July 6.

Officials said stakeholders discussed security deployment, route planning, crowd management, traffic regulation and logistical coordination for the visit.

LBA President Tsering Dorjay Lakrook highlighted key requirements and informed the meeting that further coordination meetings would be held in the coming days to finalise preparations.

Officials said the Health Department has been directed to ensure adequate deployment of medical personnel and emergency response facilities.

The meeting further reviewed arrangements at venues associated with the visit, including Jivetsal, where teachings are scheduled, and His Holiness residence.

The departments were instructed to maintain cleanliness, sanitation, water supply and other civic amenities at the highest standards.

Officials also decided to convene another review meeting to assess security enhancement measures, inspect CCTV surveillance systems at key locations and finalise arrangements for vehicle passes and access control.
