Leh: After a day-long postponement due to poor weather, His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama finally departed for Zanskar this morning.
The spiritual leader’s journey had originally been scheduled for July 19 but was rescheduled after dense cloud cover and safety concerns forced organizers to call off the trip.
On July 19, Padang Lhawang, President of the Zanskar Buddhist Association, confirmed the delay and expressed hope for better conditions the following day.
“All preparations had been made, and devotees had gathered early in the morning. However, due to the weather, the event had to be called off for today. We hope conditions improve by tomorrow,” he had said.
This morning, July 20, clearer skies allowed His Holiness to set off for Zanskar. However, weather conditions once again became unpredictable mid-route, forcing a temporary return to Leh.
Despite the delays, large numbers of devotees remain gathered in Zanskar, awaiting the arrival of His Holiness with hope and anticipation. The visit is expected to include teachings, blessings, and public interactions.
