Leh: In a significant gesture of compassion and support, Thiksey Rinpoche, Venerable Ngawang Jamyang Chamba Stanzin, has donated 62 kanal of land to aid the relocation of the Jangthang Tibetan Settlement in Chumur and to provide permanent housing for Tibetan families in Leh currently without proper shelter.
On July 25, 2025, a high-level delegation led by Sikyong Penpa Tsering of the Central Tibetan Administration (CTA) visited Thiksey Rinpoche in Ladakh to personally thank him for this generous act.
The delegation included Kalon Dolma Gyari (Department of Security), Kalon Norzin Dolma (Department of Information and International Relations), Secretary Palden Dhondup (Department of Home), and other senior CTA officials, including representatives from the Bureau of His Holiness the Dalai Lama in Delhi.
The visit began with a cordial meeting at Rinpoche’s residence, where the Tibetan leadership expressed their heartfelt gratitude. Later, the delegation visited the site of the donated land, where Thiksey Rinpoche performed a traditional consecration ceremony.
He also interacted warmly with members of the Chumur Tibetan nomadic community and hosted a luncheon in honour of the visiting dignitaries.
A formal ceremony was held in the afternoon at the Samyeling Tibetan community hall in Leh, where the CTA delegation presented Rinpoche with a citation and tokens of appreciation from the Department of Home.
Community members and monks of Thiksey Monastery were also present, celebrating the occasion with reverence and unity.
This land donation marks a major step forward in improving the lives of Tibetan refugees in the region, reflecting Thiksey Rinpoche’s deep commitment to the well-being and dignity of the Tibetan people in Ladakh.
