
Govt to intensify crackdowns on drug peddlers in Leh
Suse chairs District Level NCORD Committee meeting
Leh: Deputy Commissioner, Leh, Shrikant Suse who is also the Chairman of District Level Committee (DLC) under Narco Coordination Centre (NCORD), Leh chaired the 6th NCORD Committee meeting with the concerned members Tuesday.
Senior Superintendent of Police, Leh, PD Nitya apprised about the recent arrests of culprits under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and their modus operandi.
The DC stressed on intensified crack downs on the drug peddlers along with intensive awareness, sensitization camps and inspection drives conducted in a coordinated manner between the concerned departments such as Police, Medical, Education and Social Welfare, etc.
He instructed the officers to submit the list of shopkeepers who repeatedly violate the COPTA rules and exhorted that the District Administration would initiate strict legal actions against the violators.
DC Leh directed the concerned officers to plan a sensitisation programme about drug addiction with participation of all the concerned stakeholders, including school principals, students, Yato Club members, tourism sector and others.
Also, DC Leh stressed on closed coordination with Narcotics Control Bureau, Jammu by district police Leh for elimination of interstate supply chains.
The meeting also deliberated on scheduling awareness camps in labour concentrated areas/camps in association with the Labour Department, BRO and the NCORD Committee.
