Kargil, December 2, 2025: Government Middle School, Sharchay today celebrated the second edition of the Border School Fest, turning the remote institution into a vibrant hub of culture, innovation and community spirit. Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Kargil, Imteeaz Kacho presided over the event as Chief Guest, while ZEO Kargil, Nargis Bano attended as Guest of Honour and rZamba Trust CEO, Saldon Shifa, joined as Special Guest.

The celebration drew enthusiastic participation from officials, rZamba Trust representatives, the 17000 Feet Foundation, VEC members, students and villagers. Guests trekked nearly an hour to reach the school—highlighting the perseverance required in a village that still lacks road and mobile network connectivity.

In his address, ADC Kacho praised the remarkable transformation of the school. He commended the students, teachers and villagers for creating a model school despite the region’s harsh terrain. He lauded Headmaster Mohammad Abass Pintoo for pioneering innovative teaching methods, developing infrastructure and mobilising the entire community to uplift the institution. Kacho also informed that the Administration is finalising a fair teacher transfer policy to ensure equal growth opportunities for schools across the district.

ZEO Kargil appreciated the school’s progress and urged the management to update the UDISE portal to reflect infrastructure and developmental needs. She praised the dedication of the Headmaster and VEC members for elevating the school to a centre of excellence.

rZamba CEO Saldon Shifa outlined the NGO’s ongoing initiatives at the school, noting that progress in such remote areas motivates them to continue supporting more institutions. Representatives from the 17000 Feet Foundation shared updates on projects like the Digi Lab and Library.

Local representative Arif Ladakhi presented a memorandum seeking fencing for the school and accommodation facilities for volunteer teachers. He also acknowledged the transformative efforts of Headmaster Pintoo.

The Headmaster credited the villagers, teachers and students for the school’s achievements. The event also featured colourful cultural performances and an ethnic food stall showcasing local cuisine.

The Border School Fest once again highlighted how determination, community effort and innovative leadership can turn even the remotest school into a beacon of excellence.
