Zanskar, Dec 3, 2025: Government Model Degree College (GMDC) Zanskar, in collaboration with PM SHRI Government Middle School Salapi, observed World AIDS Day with a comprehensive awareness programme held under the leadership of Principal Dr. Amjad Ali Abassi.

The event was attended by Guest Speaker Dr. Angmo from CHC Padum, Headmaster PM SHRI GMS Salapi Stanzin Kunsal, VEC members, faculty, and students from both institutions.

In his address, Principal Dr. Abassi highlighted the global relevance of World AIDS Day and stressed the importance of health, hygiene, and awareness in modern society. Urging students—especially young women—to stay informed about HIV/AIDS, he also spoke about the nutritional and medicinal value of local plants, including sea buckthorn. As a gesture of respect, he presented traditional khataks to Dr. Angmo and other dignitaries.

Headmaster Kunsal appreciated GMDC Zanskar’s continued academic support and presented a khatak to Principal Abassi in acknowledgment of the college’s collaboration and guidance.

The highlight of the programme included an awareness talk by Dr. Angmo, who delivered an insightful session on the causes, transmission, prevention, and social stigma associated with HIV/AIDS. She called for greater openness and compassion within communities to combat taboos and promote public health.

A poster-making competition followed, aimed at sensitising students about the theme. All participants received certificates of appreciation. Dr. Angmo was also presented with a souvenir in recognition of her valuable contribution.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Villayat Ali, Assistant Professor, Department of History, who acknowledged the efforts of the faculty, students, and guests for making the programme a success.
