Kargil, November 8: Government High School Kaksar celebrated its Annual Day-cum-Food Ethnic Festival 2025 with great enthusiasm and community participation, highlighting the region’s rich culture, culinary heritage, and student talent.
Chief Education Officer Kargil, Shri Sonam Wanchuk, graced the event as Chief Guest, while Col. Manoj Rathi, Commanding Officer 18 MAHAR, attended as Guest of Honour. Special guests included Mr. Akhtar Hussain, Headmaster High School Tambis, Sheikh Mohsin Hussain Shakri, and Zakir Hussain Budgami.
The programme began with a welcome address by Mr. Nissar Hussain Balkhani, followed by the inauguration of food stalls prepared by students under teachers’ guidance. Visitors were treated to a display of ten stalls featuring diverse traditional and ethnic dishes, where students explained recipes, ingredients, and nutritional values.
Dignitaries also visited the Art and Craft Room, appreciating students’ creativity. The cultural segment included a melodious Manqabat and an impactful ramp walk promoting the message of choosing local and traditional food over junk food.
During the Prize Distribution Ceremony, students excelling in various categories were felicitated. Mr. Mohammad Sadiq was named Best Orderly of the Year, Mr. Mohammad Javed received Best Parent of the Year, and Mr. Mohammad Sarwar was honoured as Best SMDC Member of the Year.
In his address, CEO Sonam Wanchuk commended the school’s efforts, assuring full administrative support and opportunities for students to participate at district-level events. The school expressed heartfelt gratitude to Col. Manoj Rathi for his consistent encouragement and logistic assistance.
The event concluded with a Vote of Thanks by Mr. Gulzar Hussain, who acknowledged the contributions of all guests, staff, and participants. The programme was supported by the Tribal Research Institute, University of Ladakh, Kargil Campus, and funded by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs.
