Kargil: The Department of Geology, Government Degree College Kargil on October 19, 2024 organized a successful one-day field trip to Suru Valley for students of 3rd and 5th Semesters.
The trip was aimed to provide hands-on experience in geological exploration and enhance students’ practical understanding of the subject.
The day began with an introductory lecture focused on the principles of field exploration.
Students learned to effectively handle geological tools, including Brunton compass and geological hammer.
Various significant geological features encountered during the trip were thoroughly explained to foster logical thinking and develop a scientific temperament.
Participants explored a diverse array of rock types in the area, including igneous, sedimentary, and metamorphic rocks.
The geological processes responsible for their formation were discussed in detail.
Students also collected fossil samples of gastropods, contributing to their practical learning experience.
In addition to rock types, students were exposed to key geological features such as dikes, sills, folds, faults, pillow basalts, and alluvial deposits.
This comprehensive field experience not only enriched their academic knowledge but also instilled a deeper appreciation for geological science.
The department expressed gratitude to all faculty members and students who participated in making this educational trip a success.
