Kargil: The Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) and Career Counselling Committee of Government Degree College (GDC) Kargil jointly organised an orientation programme for newly admitted students of Semester I under the Four-Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUGP) aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
The orientation aimed to familiarise freshers with the academic structure, credit system, and support facilities available at the college. The programme began with a keynote-cum-welcome address by College Principal, Prof. Disket Angmo, who extended a warm welcome to the new entrants.
In her address, Principal Angmo emphasised that the orientation programme was carefully designed to ensure a smooth transition from school life to higher education. She highlighted GDC Kargil’s enduring legacy since its establishment in 1995, stating that the college has significantly contributed to the educational development of Ladakh and has been a beacon of knowledge, character-building, and empowerment for decades.
The Principal also shared her vision of holistic education, announcing the introduction of student-led clubs and societies to encourage co-curricular growth. She further informed students that student council elections would be held in a timely manner to allow first-hand experience of the democratic process. She urged students to maintain discipline, cooperation, and uphold values of respect, inclusivity, and academic excellence during their time at the college.
Following this, Mohammad Raza, Assistant Professor of Biotechnology, delivered an in-depth presentation on the NEP 2020 curriculum, highlighting key elements such as the Academic Bank of Credits (ABC), APAAR ID, multi-entry/exit options, and credit-based learning. He also briefed students on the Centre Sectoral Skill Courses and other vocational courses offered by the college.
Assistant Professor of Physics, Mumtaz Ahmed, provided detailed insights into the credit structure, credit hours, evaluation pattern, attendance requirements, and marks distribution. He also elaborated on the academic timetable and stressed the importance of adhering to it.
Students were also introduced to the facilities available at GDC Kargil, including the Girls’ Hostel, Library, Sports infrastructure, and transport services.
The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from around 90 students, who expressed their appreciation for the guidance and motivation provided during the session.
The event was conducted by Assistant Professor of Commerce, Stanzin Lhadol, while Dr. Mohammad Mustafa, Assistant Professor of Psychology, proposed the vote of thanks.
