Leh: A new chapter in accessible healthcare began in Ladakh as Chief Executive Councillor Tashi Gyalson flagged off the Sri Sathya Sai Netra Mitra, a free mobile eye clinic van, from the Council Secretariat in Leh.
The initiative is part of the nationwide “100 Years of Love and Service” campaign commemorating the birth centenary of Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba.
The launch event was attended by Deputy Chairman Tsering Angchuk, Bhikkhu Sanghasena of Mahabodhi International Meditation Centre, Dr. Gopi Krishna Pidatala from Sri Sathya Sai Seva Organisations, National Youth Coordinator Lakshmikant Sharma, and several senior medical officers and stakeholders.
The mobile eye clinic, a collaboration between Sri Sathya Sai Seva Organisations and Mahabodhi Karuna Charitable Hospital, is equipped with advanced screening tools to bring quality eye care to remote areas of Ladakh. A dedicated team of 10 doctors and 29 volunteers will operate the unit.
Dr. Gopi Krishna Pidatala announced that 1,000 free cardiac surgeries would also be offered to Ladakh patients under the centenary project. Screening camps will identify eligible patients, who will be treated free of cost at hospitals in Rajkot and Ahmedabad.
Speaking at the event, Tashi Gyalson thanked the organisation for the initiative and highlighted ongoing efforts by LAHDC Leh to launch a mobile cancer diagnostic van. He reaffirmed the council’s commitment to inclusive healthcare across the region.
The event concluded with a ceremonial inspection of the van and presentation of mementoes to dignitaries and senior medical personnel in recognition of their support.
