Kargil, November 3:
Member of Parliament (MP) from Ladakh, Haji Haneefa Jan, undertook an extensive tour of several villages — including Stiyangkung, Karchykhar, Lalung, Thasgam, Hambri, Thang, Brakoo, and Thuvina — to review development works, assess local challenges, and interact with residents.
During his visit, the MP patiently listened to the grievances of villagers and assured swift redressal of their concerns at both the Council and Central levels. He emphasized that alongside tourism, horticulture should be developed as a key economic driver for the region.
At Stiyangkung, locals sought the construction of a cattle shed, water pump system, medical centre, protection bandh, and support for apricot cultivation. Youth also demanded a playground. The MP assured that all issues would be taken up on priority.
In Karchykhar, villagers called for the renovation of Syed Mir Hashim Astana, preservation of ancient Buddhist relics, and conservation of the historic mosque. They also urged the upgradation of their 1954-established middle school and winter coaching for underprivileged students. The MP termed these heritage sites as “valuable cultural assets” and directed the Tourism Department to take preservation measures.
At Lalung, people raised concerns regarding incomplete link roads, flash flood protection, and Jal Jeevan Mission shortcomings. They also sought financial aid for Imam Bargahs. The MP instructed officials to expedite compensation and address pending works.
Residents of Thasgam and Hambri demanded improved medical facilities, school infrastructure, roads, and better supply of urea fertilizers. The MP assured that agricultural concerns would be taken up with relevant authorities for timely resolution.
In Brakoo, villagers sought upgradation of their middle school and repair of water and irrigation systems. In Thuvina, locals urged for a road link to Lungma Glacier to boost tourism, and for renovation of the Eidgah. The MP praised their forward-looking approach, highlighting tourism as a key growth opportunity for the Barsoo region.
Concluding his visit, MP Haneefa Jan expressed satisfaction with the public interaction, reiterating his commitment to the region’s holistic and sustainable development.
