Leh: In response to flash floods and mudslides that have severely disrupted road connectivity in parts of Shayok Valley—linking Nubra to Durbuk—Deputy Commissioner Leh, Romil Singh Donk (IAS), chaired an emergency review meeting with officials from Project 753 BRO at the DC Office today.
BRO representatives shared visuals from the affected areas, showing roads buried under 2 to 3 meters of mud, making them completely impassable. Officials indicated that restoration may take several weeks, depending on weather and ground conditions.
DC Leh directed the BRO to immediately mobilize machinery and manpower to clear the routes and instructed them to submit a detailed restoration timeline by the end of the day.
He also called for close coordination between the Sub-Divisional Magistrates (SDMs) of Nubra and Durbuk, who joined the meeting virtually. The DC stressed the importance of regular progress updates and added that the Disaster Management Department may be roped in for further support if needed.
The meeting marked a swift administrative response aimed at ensuring quick restoration of vital connectivity and preventing any humanitarian distress.
