LEH: The inaugural Theatre Festival, held from June 26th to June 30th, 2024, in Ladakh, concluded successfully with enthusiastic participation and positive feedback from attendees.
The festival was hosted at the Nagarjuna Auditorium CIBS, Choglamsar, featured an impressive lineup of five different plays performed by the NSD Repertory Company. Initiated by Festival Director Sonam Stobgais of NSD, this event made history in Ladakh.The five-day festival captivated audiences with its enthralling performances, culminating in a grand conclusion.
The festival was a landmark event organized by the National School of Drama (NSD) Repertory Company in collaboration with the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC) and the Central Institute of Buddhist Studies (CIBS). As the first-ever theatre festival in Ladakh, it marked a significant cultural milestone for the region.
NSD and LAHDC collaborated with full support for this historic event and are planning to promote theatre, specifically Theatre in Education, in Leh in the future. In 2022, LAHDC organized a month-long residential theatre workshop in collaboration with NSD.
CEC Tashi Gyalson has consistently supported such crucial activities in Leh and plans to further encourage theatre in the future.
The closing ceremony was graced by dignitaries including Director of NSD Chittaranjan Tripathi;Executive Councillor Stanzin Chosphel;Repertory Chief Rajesh Singh and Vice Chancellor of CIBS Rajesh Ranjan.
