Leh: In an extraordinary show of grit, endurance, and patriotic spirit, the Indian Army’s Fire & Fury Corps has launched a challenging Summer Expedition across the historic and treacherous terrain of the Old Silk Route. The expedition, flagged off by Lieutenant General Hitesh Bhalla, General Officer Commanding, Fire & Fury Corps, covers 264 kilometers over 12 days, with troops trekking through altitudes ranging from 11,000 to 18,000 feet.
Braving icy winds, rugged landscapes, and razor-thin air, the mission is more than a test of physical endurance—it is a living tribute to India’s ancient cultural and strategic legacy. Retracing the steps once taken by monks, warriors, and traders, the expedition reconnects with the rich historical heritage that has shaped the Northern Frontiers of India.
The route highlights Ladakh’s historical role as a vital link between Central and South Asia—a legacy that remains geopolitically relevant today.
