DRASS: In Ladakh, a two-day refresher workshop on Dry Needle Felting concluded at Holiyal village, Drass, marking another milestone in the collaboration between the Himalayan Brown Bear Trust and the Snow Leopard Conservancy Trust India, with support from Roots Ladakh and Drenmo Lodge.

Thirteen enthusiastic women from the local communities participated in the workshop, aimed at advancing their woollen toy felting skills.

The initiative builds upon the success of the first workshop held in October 2023, focusing on providing sustainable income opportunities for households in the region.

The workshop not only enhanced the participants’ skills but also equipped them with the means to create another source of income for their families.

As brown bear tourism continues to thrive in the Drass Valley, this initiative is a crucial step towards integrating local communities into the tourism ecosystem and enabling them to reap its benefits.

Looking ahead, the Himalayan Brown Bear Trust plans to expand its collaboration with other local organizations to conduct similar workshops across multiple villages in Drass.

By empowering women and preserving wildlife, these efforts aim to foster sustainable development in the region while ensuring the conservation of its natural heritage.
